The
Golf Section ...
is open to all Financial members of the Bays Club
and any member wishing to play need only contact the
Golf Section Co-ordinator (as above) and you will be
included into our playing numbers, we also are quite
happy for you to bring along friends as long as we
know, as they may become potential members of the
Bays Club.
Playing Format
We meet once a month and play on various courses in
and around the Greater Auckland area. With the
exception of our two mystery tours and our annual
Managers v. Presidents match played at the Mangawhai
Golf Club. All section members are given a calendar
of the events for the year. All games are played to
N.Z.P.G.A. rules and our match-cards are recorded in
stableford points, hole by hole.
Transport
With the exception of our mystery trips and our
annual tournament at Mangawhai Heads, we use our own
means of transport, but for the others we hire a
coach and leave from the Bays Club.
Financial
The cost of our green fees are at present on most
courses $35 and to be added to that is $10 to help
cover the cost of the prizes. So your cost for the
day is $45 unless you are a financial member of the
Golf Club we are playing on, in which case if we do
not have to pay green fees for you, then we will not
charge you, except $10 towards prize money. All
money is paid to the Golf Co-ordinator in the club
house who then settles the account with the golf
club. You have the option to become a financial
member of our section, the cost being $24 or
pro-rata if joining during the year, the advantage
of this is that it qualifies you to contest for our
five trophies we play for each year.
Handicap
Our members that belong to a Golf Club will play
with their official handicap and for those of us
that do not belong to a golf club, we have a
handicapping system of our own and you are informed
of your playing handicap on the day. New members or
visitors playing, who do not have an official
handicap, will start on a 24 handicap for their
first game, and adjusted accordingly if required.

Trophies
We currently contest for five trophies during the
year, and they are:
1 & 2. The
Championship Trophies, for ladies and men,
which is played over four courses and the highest
three scores that are registered on your cards, are
the ones that represent your final total score,
therefore the person/persons with the highest total
score will be deemed the winner/winners.
3. The Eight Clubs Trophy is played for on a
nominated course, and the rules for such is that you
are only permitted to use eight clubs ( including
your putter ) and the person recording the highest
stableford score will be adjudged the winner. With
equal scores, the final result will be determined by
a count back, by three holes at a time.
4. The Ivan Poole Godfathers Trophy is
contested at our December meeting, and the only
qualifiers are the preceding winners and runner-up
of the previous months meetings. The highest recorded
stableford score takes the trophy and in the event
of a drawn score then the overall winner is
determined by a count back.
5 The Eclectic Trophy is awarded to the
player who records the highest overall stableford
points over 18 holes on all the courses that were
played that year. All cards have their hole by hole
stableford score checked and recorded onto the
eclectic register and amended if required after each
game. Therefore at our last meeting of the year
after the days cards have been checked onto the
register, the player that records the highest
overall score over the 18 holes is deemed to be the
winner. In the event of a drawn score, then a count
back will determine the result.
Trophy Presentations
In December after our final game of the year, we go
home and get changed and return back to our club
restaurant for our end of year dinner and
prize-giving.
